The DXF export is designed as a clean handoff from reviewed vector artwork into a CAD, CAM, laser, or cutting application. Machine-specific operations still belong in that application.

What the DXF export includes

  • The visible image is vectorized into inspectable paths before the output format is chosen.
  • The Cutting & CAM profile writes R13 DXF geometry at the final width you choose in millimeters or inches.
  • The exporter automatically groups geometry into deterministic layers by source color so regions are easier to identify downstream.

BACKGROUND

Why vectorize before exporting DXF?

A raster image records colored pixels, while DXF is useful to CAD, CAM, laser, and cutting workflows because it can carry geometric paths. Simply changing a filename or placing an image inside another container does not create editable contours.

PerfectVector first interprets the visible artwork as vector regions. You can inspect and refine those paths before choosing the DXF export profile and intended physical width. On export, geometry is automatically grouped into deterministic layers by source color.

Flat logos, silhouettes, stencils, signs, emblems, and high-contrast line art are usually the clearest sources. Photographs, gradients, texture, and soft shadows become a stylized set of shapes rather than a pixel-faithful image.

The exported DXF is geometry, not a finished machine program. Confirm dimensions, close or simplify contours where needed, assign cut or engrave operations, apply kerf or tool compensation, and simulate the job in the software that controls your machine.
