TIFF is a container with many layouts and compression methods. PerfectVector accepts the proven subset rather than treating every `.tif` or `.tiff` file as equivalent.

How TIFF is handled

  • The classic-TIFF directory, dimensions, samples, compression, layout, page count, and orientation are inspected locally first.
  • Supported grayscale, RGB, RGBA, or palette pixels are decoded in a worker and normalized to verified PNG for the shared workflow.
  • Multipage, BigTIFF, unsupported color/layout/compression, corrupt, and oversized files stop before upload.

Strong TIFF sources

  • Scanned ink drawings, signatures, lettering, and line art
  • Logos, diagrams, technical symbols, and flat print graphics
  • One raster page whose visible geometry needs editing or enlargement

Keep or re-export complex TIFF files

  • Only one supported classic-TIFF page is accepted; multipage TIFF and BigTIFF are rejected.
  • Tiled or planar data, CMYK/YCbCr, signed or floating-point samples, PackBits, and JPEG-compressed TIFF are outside the supported subset.
  • ICC-managed color fidelity, paper texture, halftones, and subtle scan tone are not the purpose of vectorization.

BACKGROUND

When should you convert TIFF to SVG?

TIFF is widely used for scans, print handoffs, archival images, and lossless raster masters. It can preserve source pixels well, but it does not make the lines, letters, or color regions independently editable.

PerfectVector supports a deliberately bounded single-page classic-TIFF subset. The browser inspects the complete file directory before loading the decoder, handles the proven grayscale, RGB, RGBA, and palette layouts, applies supported orientation, and prepares verified pixels for vectorization.

High-contrast scans, ink drawings, lettering, diagrams, logos, and flat print graphics can be strong vector sources. Keep the TIFF when exact scan tone, multipage content, color-managed print fidelity, or unsupported archival structure matters; export a compatible page before vectorizing those cases.

Questions before you convert?

Can PerfectVector convert a multipage TIFF to SVG?+
No. The current adapter accepts one supported classic-TIFF page and rejects multipage files rather than silently choosing a page. Export the intended page as a compatible PNG or TIFF first.
Are both TIF and TIFF filename extensions accepted?+
Yes. `.tif` and `.tiff` are handled as one canonical family, but the bytes still need to match the supported single-page classic-TIFF structure. Renaming a BigTIFF or unsupported layout does not make it compatible.
Which TIFF scans vectorize best?+
High-contrast line art, ink drawings, signatures, lettering, diagrams, logos, and flat graphics usually translate more cleanly than noisy paper texture, halftones, photographic tone, or soft shadows.
Does PerfectVector support CMYK or BigTIFF files?+
No. BigTIFF, CMYK/YCbCr, tiled or planar layouts, signed or floating-point samples, PackBits, and JPEG-compressed TIFF are outside the current bounded subset. Export one intended page to a supported RGB or grayscale format first.
