GIF INPUT GUIDE

Choose the right frame before building the SVG

A GIF may contain one image or a complete animation. PerfectVector makes that difference explicit so the vector result comes from the still frame you actually want.

How GIF is handled

  • Static GIF files are decoded in the browser and prepared as a still image.
  • Animated GIF files open a frame selector before any upload begins.
  • The confirmed frame re-enters the normal size and quality review before vectorization.

Strong GIF sources

  • Logos, icons, badges, and limited-palette graphics
  • Pixel art or simple animation frames with clear regions
  • A single pose, symbol, or title card needed as editable artwork

Keep the GIF when motion matters

  • The SVG output contains one selected still frame, not animation.
  • Dithering, photographic detail, and soft effects can become stylized.
  • Corrupt, oversized, or exceptionally frame-heavy animations are rejected before upload.
HOW IT WORKS

From GIF motion to one editable SVG

  1. 1

    Upload your GIF

Choose a static or animated GIF. PerfectVector inspects the file locally before anything is uploaded.

  2. 2

    Choose the frame

If the GIF is animated, compare the motion with the selected still and confirm the exact frame you want to vectorize.

  3. 3

    Inspect the vector result

Review the watermarked preview, edges, colors, and anchor nodes to judge how the chosen frame translated into paths.

  4. 4

    Unlock the SVG

Use one credit to unlock the finished SVG. Once unlocked, you can download that result again without another credit.

BACKGROUND

When should you convert GIF to SVG?

GIF is a pixel format built around indexed colors, simple transparency, and optional animation. It works well for compact web graphics, but enlarging a GIF still enlarges its pixels. Converting one useful frame to SVG gives you shapes that can be scaled, recolored, and edited instead.

PerfectVector treats animation as a decision rather than silently taking the first frame. A static GIF continues through the normal preparation flow. When the file contains multiple frames, you compare the animation with a selected still and confirm the exact frame to vectorize.

The downloaded result is a still SVG, not an animated replacement for the original GIF. Flat logos, pixel art, icons, stickers, and limited-palette illustrations are usually stronger sources than photographic, heavily dithered, or very detailed animation frames.

CHOOSE THE RIGHT OUTPUT

Vectorize one frame—or keep the animation.

GIF and SVG solve different jobs. Use this check to decide whether you need editable artwork from one frame or the original motion.

Before you pick a plan

You're in good company.

I'd tried everything and been let down every time — I'd given up, figuring today's tech just couldn't do this. And you actually built it. If this is real, it's genuinely incredible.

It converts at even better quality than I expected — it preserves the character of the original better than anything else I've tried.
imbee••••via Threads
PerfectVector is impressively fast, and the output quality is already very good. With a bit more refinement it could easily compete with the leading tools.

Way more detailed than I expected. Opening Illustrator to convert every single time was such a chore — bookmarked.

Tried it — it's accurate. Simple images actually expose detail differences more than complex ones do, and this nails them.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Questions before you convert?

Can I convert an animated GIF to SVG?+
You can choose one still frame from an animated GIF and vectorize that frame as SVG paths. PerfectVector does not convert the complete animation into an animated SVG. Keep the original GIF when preserving motion is the goal.
How does PerfectVector choose the GIF frame?+
It does not choose silently. When a GIF contains multiple frames, PerfectVector opens a frame selector so you can compare the animation with a still preview and confirm the exact frame before upload.
Which GIF images vectorize best?+
Logos, icons, pixel art, badges, stickers, and other limited-palette graphics with clear regions usually work best. Dithered photographs, soft shadows, and tiny details may become more stylized.
Will GIF transparency remain transparent?+
A transparent background in the selected frame can help isolate the artwork, but inspect the preview carefully. GIF transparency is limited, and edge pixels or painted backgrounds can still affect the resulting shapes.
Can I edit the converted GIF SVG?+
Yes. The unlocked download contains SVG paths that standard vector editors can open. Editing behavior varies by application, so test the file in your target editor when exact compatibility matters.
How does pricing work?+
Vectorizing and preview are always free and unlimited — you only spend a credit when you download a finished file.
