SEE THE DIFFERENCE

From fuzzy pixels to perfect vectors.

PerfectVector rebuilds your image as crisp, scalable vector art. Sharp at any size, anywhere.

WHO GETS STUCK HERE

Three people can be waiting on the same missing file.

An .AI request usually means someone needs artwork that stays sharp and can still be edited. The exact pressure changes depending on who is holding up the job.

Business owner

The printer asked for an .AI logo. I only have the PNG from our website.

Rebuild the image as paths, check the result, and send a clearly labeled Illustrator-compatible handoff.

Designer or agency

The client sent a flattened asset, but the next supplier needs editable geometry.

Use the new vector as a practical starting point, then refine colors and shapes before export.

Print or sign team

The job is waiting because the supplied artwork will not scale cleanly.

Recover vector paths for the handoff, then confirm color, bleed, and production requirements separately.

HOW THE FILE IS MADE

The image becomes paths before it becomes .AI.

Changing a filename does not create a vector. PerfectVector first interprets the source image as shapes, curves, fills, and supported gradients. The .AI compatibility file is assembled from that geometry.

No extension trick: the raster is rebuilt as vector geometry before the .AI compatibility file is assembled.

WHAT THE DOWNLOAD CONTAINS

A clear compatibility profile, before you download.

The first export profile is deliberately specific. It gives the next person editable vector geometry without pretending that a flat image can restore every part of the original Illustrator document.

REAL VECTOR HANDOFF

Changing the extension is not the same as vectorizing the artwork.

The useful comparison is not .AI versus another label. It is editable paths versus pixels, with the original vector master still shown as the best source whenever it exists.

If the original vector file exists, use it. PerfectVector is the practical route when the usable master is missing and only a raster image remains.

BEFORE YOU SEND IT

Check what the printer or designer actually needs.

Some requests are really asking for scalable outlines. Others include production requirements that need a separate prepress step. This checklist makes the boundary easy to see.

IF

They need scalable outline paths

THENUse the .AI vector handoff

Inspect curves, corners, colors, and fine details first.

IF

They only said “send the AI file”

THENAsk what the file must do

Often they need editable vector geometry, not native effects.

IF

They require CMYK, spot colors, bleed, or separations

THENPlan a prepress finishing step

The first .AI export profile is RGB and does not configure production color.

IF

They need native layers, live type, or multiple artboards

THENUse Illustrator or the original source

Those document structures cannot be recovered from a flat image.

START WITH THE SOURCE

Some images trace cleanly. Others need a different route.

Clear logos and line art are strong candidates. Photographs and tiny compressed images need more care, and an original vector master should always win when it is available.

Strong fit

Logos, icons, and flat illustrations

Clear edges and limited palettes provide the most useful geometry.

Strong fit

Line art and lettering outlines

Inspect small counters and corners before download.

Review carefully

Gradients, shadows, and textured art

The vector result interprets tonal detail rather than preserving every pixel.

Review carefully

Tiny screenshots and compressed JPGs

Missing edge information cannot be recovered exactly.

Keep raster

Photographs needing literal fidelity

Use vectors only when a stylized result is the goal.

Use the original

A real vector master is available

An original SVG, EPS, PDF, or AI is more reliable than any trace.

FROM IMAGE TO ILLUSTRATOR HANDOFF

Create an editable .AI file in four steps

  1. 1

    Upload the clearest source

Start with the largest, cleanest image you have. Logos, line art, icons, and limited-color illustrations usually provide the strongest paths.

  2. 2

    Inspect the vector result

Zoom into corners, small counters, lettering, color boundaries, and fine details. Refine the vector before choosing an export format.

  3. 3

    Choose the .AI export

Select the Illustrator-compatible profile after the paths look right. The export step assembles the finished file locally in your browser.

  4. 4

    Verify the recipient’s requirements

Open the file in the intended design workflow when possible, and confirm any separate CMYK, spot-color, bleed, or production setup with the printer.

BACKGROUND

What does an Illustrator-compatible .AI handoff contain?

When a printer or designer asks for an .AI file, they often need artwork that can scale and still be edited. If the only source left is a PNG, JPG, or another raster image, renaming the file does not solve that request.

PerfectVector rebuilds visible artwork as vector paths. You can inspect the protected preview, adjust the result in the editor, and choose the Illustrator-compatible .AI export only after the geometry looks right.

The current export is a single-page PDF 1.4 vector profile saved with an .ai filename. It carries editable filled RGB paths, supported linear and radial gradients, and supported bounded clipping on one artboard.

It does not recover native Illustrator layers, live type, effects, swatches, spot colors, CMYK setup, gradient meshes, or multiple artboards from a flat image. If the original vector master exists, use that file instead of tracing it again.

Before you pick a plan

You're in good company.

I'd tried everything and been let down every time — I'd given up, figuring today's tech just couldn't do this. And you actually built it. If this is real, it's genuinely incredible.

It converts at even better quality than I expected — it preserves the character of the original better than anything else I've tried.
imbee••••via Threads
PerfectVector is impressively fast, and the output quality is already very good. With a bit more refinement it could easily compete with the leading tools.

Way more detailed than I expected. Opening Illustrator to convert every single time was such a chore — bookmarked.

Tried it — it's accurate. Simple images actually expose detail differences more than complex ones do, and this nails them.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Questions before you convert?

Does “image to AI” mean artificial intelligence?+
Not on this page. AI refers to the .ai filename used by Adobe Illustrator workflows. PerfectVector uses vectorization to rebuild your image as editable paths, then packages those paths in an Illustrator-compatible .AI handoff.
Is this a real vector .AI file or just a renamed image?+
It is not an image with a different extension. PerfectVector first rebuilds the raster artwork as vector geometry. The download contains a valid single-page PDF 1.4 vector profile under an .ai filename, with editable filled RGB paths and supported gradients.
Do I need Adobe Illustrator to create the file?+
No. You can vectorize, inspect, edit, and export the Illustrator-compatible .AI handoff in PerfectVector. The recipient may still use Illustrator or another compatible design application to open, edit, or prepare it for production.
What does the .AI export contain?+
The current profile contains editable filled RGB paths, supported linear and radial gradients, supported bounded clipping, and one artboard. The export is assembled locally in your browser from the committed vector result.
Will it restore native Illustrator layers, live text, effects, CMYK, or spot colors?+
No. A flat raster image does not contain the original document structure, so those features cannot be recovered. The export provides editable vector geometry; native layers, live type, effects, swatches, production color, and multiple artboards require a separate finishing step or the original source file.
Which images work best for an Illustrator-compatible handoff?+
Clear logos, icons, line art, lettering outlines, and flat illustrations with limited colors are the strongest candidates. Photos, heavy texture, soft shadows, gradients, and tiny compressed images need closer review because vectorization interprets their visible detail.
Will my printer or designer be able to open the file?+
The export targets workflows that accept PDF-compatible vector content under an .ai filename, but PerfectVector does not claim universal compatibility with every application or Illustrator release. Confirm the recipient’s software, version, and production requirements before the final handoff.
How much does image-to-.AI conversion cost?+
