Yes. Kittl can vectorize an existing image. Its AI Vectorizer accepts a raster image such as a PNG or JPG, converts it into vector shapes, and lets you continue editing on the Kittl canvas. Kittl also has an AI Vector Generator, but that tool creates new artwork from a text prompt. It is not the same as tracing the image you already have.
That naming difference is the main thing to get right. If you upload a logo, sketch, or icon and want the same artwork as paths, use the vectorizer. If you want a new cat badge or floral label based on a description, use the generator.
Which Kittl tool do you need?

How to vectorize an image in Kittl
The current Kittl workflow is straightforward:
- Prepare the raster first. Crop away empty space, remove a background that should not be traced, and use the cleanest version of the source you have.
- Upload the PNG or JPG. Place the image on the Kittl canvas or use the vectorizer surface.
- Run AI Vectorizer. Make sure you selected the image conversion tool, not the prompt generator.
- Inspect the converted shapes. Check the silhouette, small openings, color regions, and edge smoothness.

- Export the vector format you need. Open the result again after export and confirm that it contains editable paths rather than an embedded copy of the raster.
The last check should be part of every conversion workflow. An SVG filename does not prove that the artwork inside is vector. When Kittl is the convenient choice
Kittl makes the most sense when vectorization is followed by more work in Kittl. You might trace a sketch, add text, place it in a label layout, test it on a merchandise mockup, and continue without moving the file between apps.
That integrated route is particularly useful for:
- a simple logo or badge that needs to enter a larger layout;
- a sketch that will be recolored and combined with type;
- an icon or sticker graphic that needs quick composition work;
- artwork that will use Kittl's editor and mockup workflow after tracing.
Convenience does not remove the need to inspect the SVG. The vectorizer still has to interpret color boundaries, texture, blur, and small gaps. A source with clear flat shapes is easier than a photograph, soft painting, or compressed screenshot, regardless of the editor around the tool.
When a dedicated converter fits better
A dedicated converter is simpler when the entire task is “turn this image into an SVG, inspect the trace, and download it.” You may not need a full design canvas, template system, or mockup workflow for that job.

What to inspect after Kittl vectorizes the image
Zooming in is only the first check. Select the paths and ask what the trace actually built.
1. The main silhouette
The outer edge should follow the intended design without flat spots, dents, or rounded corners that were sharp in the source. Look at the result at high zoom, then return to normal size. Some defects matter only in context.
2. Interior holes and negative space
Small counters in lettering, gaps between icon parts, and transparent cutouts can close during simplification. Compare them side by side with the source.
3. Color count
A flat four-color logo should not become dozens of nearly identical fills because the JPG added edge noise. Consolidate accidental colors before production.
4. Node count

5. The background
Check the SVG on a contrasting canvas. White artwork on a white background can hide an unwanted rectangle, and a transparent image can acquire a solid traced backdrop.
6. Real destination behavior
If the file is for print, place it in the print layout. If it is for cutting, inspect closed paths and tiny islands. If it is for the web, confirm that the exported SVG renders correctly outside the editor. The destination finds problems that a canvas preview can miss.
Images that need more than one click
Automatic conversion is strongest when the source has clear shapes and edges. These inputs usually require more preparation or a manual redraw:
- photos with lighting gradients and thousands of colors;
- watercolor, charcoal, or other texture-heavy art;
- tiny screenshots with compression artifacts;
- lettering with narrow counters and overlapping strokes;
- logos that must match official geometry exactly;
- pixel art whose square grid must remain literal.
For a permanent brand mark, a careful redraw may be more efficient than cleaning a difficult trace. For texture-heavy art, keeping a high-resolution raster may be the correct answer. Vector is a production choice, not a universal upgrade.
The practical answer
